Hosting Git Repo's [cross post]

Just to not let my adoring Git followers down, since I have yet to write my next Git article… Garry Dolley over at http://scie.nti.st has an excellent article on Hosting Git repositories, The Easy (and Secure) Way.

Now I understand he uses Python, but lets face it, so does Git. Also, its only an excuse some Rubyists use for not learning that wonderful sister language.

Enjoy, and let me know your success/failures… or just never visit this site and keep reading our wonderful articles through NetNewsWire or what-have-you.

Tonight's Amazon Web Service meetup 1

Invite Media hosted Jeff Barr of Amazon.com tonight and myself a few other KWS peeps represented.

It was somewhat disappointing in that the event was more about socializing: a meet and greet plus dog and pony show, if you will. I was hoping to have a bit more meat and potatoes. Nonetheless, it was still interesting and inspiring to see other tech faces from the Philadelphia area.

I could see EC2 being using for a certain project down the road. The ability to spin up as many instances of servers as we need at a moments notice is tantalizing. But Amazon would need to support Windows images as certain software we utilize only runs on Windows. =(

Hopefully a smaller-level project will come along soon that gives us the push we need to start really taking a closer look at AWS.

Is UI really that hard?

Sometimes the horrendous user interfaces I come across on the web really astound me. I stumbled across this on an eCommerce site:

Who came up with this? And what were they on? How much simpler would it be if they just used what practically every other eCommerce site uses:
 0-12 $13.00
13-24 $2.80
...etc.

I took this screen shot from a 22 page PDF manual on how to use this particular website. Perhaps if the user interface was more carefully crafted, one wouldn’t need a manual on how to use the site.
